Health and Safety QDTA Health and Safety Committee Chair: Andy Closkey
The QDTA is committed to ensure that a safe workplace exists for all teachers by supporting the joint health and safety committees and liaising with School District Staff to: promote safe work practices, assist in creating a safe and healthy workplace, promote compliance with WorkSafeBC regulation, and recommend actions to improve the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety program. Ensure you know your rights as the Workers Compensation Act lays out: 1. The right to know the dangers in the workplace 2. The right to participate in workplace health and safety activities 3. The right to refuse unsake work 4. The right to no discrimination. You cannot be fired or disciplined for participating in health and safety activities
School District #28 has an injury/incident reporting protocol. Here is a link to that reporting process If an incident/injury occurs at work you will need to fill out WorkSafeBC Form 6A. Access the form here.
There is also a policy in place for the prevention of violence in the workplace. Information on Policy 770 can be accessedhere. The reporting process for a violent incident can be accessed here If an incident happens then you will need to fill out either Procedure 770 Form A: Threat/Violence Report, or Procedure 770 Form B: Incident Reporting Form.
WorkSafeBC has a registry program for a worker's exposure to harmful substances or agents (for example: asbestos) This registry is voluntary, contact your school's health and safety rep if you are unsure about registering. The form can be accessed here.
